The magic of Christmas became a reality during our 1st Christmas Market at the Piece Hall Halifax
My business had been active for about 12 months when I first saw a post from the Piece Hall who were looking for ‘makers’ for their Christmas market. It was instantly a very exciting thought.
I love the Piece Hall. It appealed to my imagination during my 1st visit over 25 years ago when it was run down, dilapidated and in desperate need for some love! We took our Son there one Christmas to enjoy the ice skating (something I hope will make an appearance again one day. I envisage something a bit like Somerset House in London!)
So, the amazing transformation has taken place in this wonderful venue, everything I could hope for. It’s now a well-loved hub for independent shops, special entertainment and events, which I believe is set to grow and develop into an even better venue over time as units are taken and reputation is established. But it’s my view it’s well on the way!
Our part in the Christmas market lasted 3 days. We were lucky with the weather, it was bitingly cold and frosty but beautifully bright with blue skies as a backdrop to the activities in the vast centre square. As the sun went down the twinkle of the Christmas lights changed the atmosphere as it morphed into an evening entertainment venue
Don’t get me wrong; it was hard work! Up in the dark to get to the venue, unload our stock on a daily basis and set up our stall. Then take it all down again at the end of the day, load up the car and unload ready to start again the next day. We felt like we were going back to our nest to fall asleep before it all began again. Full respect to those who do this all the time!
Each day was really busy, well attended and all sorts of Christmas activities going on. Carol singers, fancy dress, ‘Big Top’ style bars, eateries and the highlight for me the superb Carousel – it looked stunning lit up and whizzing round loaded with families of smiling faces and laughing children as they enjoyed the ride, even the horses looked like they were laughing!
We would like to thank every single person who stopped by our stall for a browse, a chat and of course to buy our work. The feedback we received and comments people made were very encouraging. As far as highlight products are concerned it was hard to say as we were thankful to make sales across the board. Each day was different. Hand painted glass, place mats and framed artwork and prints.
I had made a couple of pieces of artwork especially for the Piece Hall, it would be wrong not to! I created a composition based on how I thought of the Piece Hall. The stunning refurbished painted gates and the backdrop of the Church spire were key elements to me. Of course that view doesn’t actually exist, but made a beautiful design. Thank you to everyone who wanted to know more about them and ‘My Piece Hall Impressions’ along with all the other artwork we showed.
Thank you to all our customers, friends and followers
We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
